fainting

Fainting is a sudden loss of consciousness caused by lack of oxygen in the brain.
There is a game where you do it on purpose by hyperventilating until you get symptoms of hypocapnia such as tingling, light-headedness or dizziness then you stand up and hold your breath with someone applies pressure on your lung. You black out for a couple of seconds until someone pinches you or slaps you awake. Some people do it because of peer pressure, a challenge or dare or curiosity.
What some might know, is that the game can cause lack of concentration and memory loss to severe mental disability or death. Statistics show fatalities and neurological damage are controversial and there are no definitive.

I tried the game once and I will never do it again. If someone pressures you or you are curious to try the game think of the possible consequences and the convince other people not to do it. Then walk away.

The end

  1. hey Freeland...it takes a lot of courage to write about your experience. You can save a life by educating yourself and helping others. If this were to happen again, walking away and telling a counsellor would be a really good thing to consider. We all face peer pressure from time to time...even as adults. It is difficult to stand up for what is right and/or safe. It is a lot harder though to recover from a dangerous game and some unfortunately do not have a second chance to do so.

I am very proud of you, Freeland, for talking to family and friends, watching videos on the dangers of this game and writing down your commitment to never play again. It is not fun or funny.

Finally you are a really smart, young man who has learned many safety skills through scuba courses and Scouting. We all make mistakes and I am really happy you have learned from yours.
    Hugs, your ma-ma

    1. Darn! You're such a smart Mom!!! And I agree Freeland - ignore peer pressure - it's dumb, but you know that already.
